ISA Abolished?

The Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) is a preventive detention law in force in Malaysia. The legislation was enacted by Malaysian politicians after the country gained independence. ISA allows for the arrest of any person without the need for trial. Malaysia is one of the few countries in the world allows for preventive detention during peacetime without protecting fundamental liberties-the right to be heart of the victims of ISA. The notable uses of the ISA can be seen in Raja Petra Kamarudin, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang etc.

However, according to Dr. Myint Zan, our Prime Minister cannot by himself unilaterally 'abolished' the ISA. The ISA would be tabled at the next sitting of Parliament, only the federal parliament could formally abolish and repeal the ISA.

Repealing the law is good, but we should think back what is the root problem with the ISA law? The law has its good intention at the first place. But it was the people abused it with the wrongful intentions. As long as the mindset of the miscreants still exists, then the root problem is still there. Something's changed but nothing's different.

I am looking forward for the true reform in Malaysia.

(p/s: just a short update in the midst of my revision, I'll keep you update soon;)
