Music + Study = Perfect Combination

It’s not uncommon that some students choose to listen to music while they study. But listening to music while studying is not for everyone; especially when it comes to certain genres like rock, hip-hop and pop— music can become more distracting than helpful for most. But studies show that there is a genre of music that has proven to help students concentrate and aid in memory and productivity. According to researchers, listening to classical music such as Beethoven and Chopin are not only excellent ways to improve memory recall, but it can also elevate a person’s mood. This is because researchers argue that music that is played at a rate of about 60 to 80 beats per minute creates Alpha Waves in the brain. These Alpha Waves are what the mind needs to reach a state of relaxation. The relaxation is what helps people concentrate. And naturally, the more you are able to concentrate, the more likely you are to retain information more effectively.
But of course classical music isn’t every person’s cup of tea. Other alternative genres could be smooth jazz, new age or trance. These types of genres create a sense of tranquility not only because they create the necessary alpha waves, but also because they generally have very minimal or no distracting lyrics. The word "distracting" is used here because the truth of the matter is when listening to a catchy tune with a catchy chorus, chances are you will be finding yourself singing along rather than focusing on the task at hand. So if you choose to select songs with lyrics, try to play the music at a low volume level so that the hook is not too over powering.
If you’d like to go ahead and take the no-lyric route but are unsure of where to start, some good song title choices will most likely have some of the following key terms: Pastorale, Adagio, Dolce, or Andante. For a couple of suggested classical music pieces check out work by these famous composers: Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Claude Debussy and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Be Careful When Facebook with Lecturer

Wow! There are increasing number of Elderly playing Facebook!! For instance my mum, Auntie, Uncle, Lecturer and Even PROFESSOR!

Well, There are a few tips that you need to know if you communicate with your lecturer/professor in the virtual communication.

Be Responsible
Professors have very little time on their hands, and you should take this into consideration when contacting them. Always take the time to think about what you can do to figure out a problem on your own before asking for help. If you can actually find the changes to the reading assignment on your own, this will save your professor time and free you up to feel more comfortable contacting him or her with a more pressing matter. In other words, don’t bug your professor! Only contact them when you absolutely need them.
Be Respectful
When emailing or chatting with a professor, address them by their title (i.e. Dr. Brown or Professor Brown), unless you are already on a first name basis. Even so, when things are in writing, it’s always good to be more formal than not. You can always gear down the formality as you build a relationship online. Also, contact your professors by the medium they lay out in the syllabus or mention in class. Don’t friend your professor on Facebook and start messaging them with class questions.
Use Correct Grammar
Resist the urge to type an email to your professor in the same format as you would a friend. Don’t use shortened words (like plz and thx,) or acronyms (like LOL). You should also capitalize appropriately, and never write an entire email in lower case. If your professor writes you back in lower case, then you can switch to the same level of informality, but make sure your grammar is up to par when first contacting a professor.
Keep Drama to Yourself
It may seem more inviting online to be open with your professor about what’s going on in your life. But, don’t make the mistake of divulging unnecessary or potentially awkward information to your professor. Your prof doesn’t really need to know about the state of your relationship or what you had for lunch. Although online communication is generally less formal, don’t get carried away and talk to your professor as if they’re a peer.

Smart and Stupid at the Same Time
I’ve spoken before about human intelligence being a multi-dimensional thing and today I thought we’d take a brief look at, what I believe to be, one of the most important and valuable components of overall intelligence: Social Intelligence. Some people are very intelligent (capable, competent, efficient) when it comes to completing certain tasks but surprisingly inept (dare I say, stupid?) when it comes to others.
You know what I mean.

聪明与笨: 一线之差

This Piece Goes Where?
Some people might suggest that I’m reasonably intelligent when it comes to writing, communicating and expressing my ideas but if those same people saw me trying to put together a piece of DIY furniture and understand the accompanying instruction sheet, they might (reasonably) conclude that I am, in fact, an idiot. It’s probably fair to say that my mechanical intelligence is low. Actually, no, low would be a significant step up.
And if those same people saw the quizzical (confused, lost, stupid) look on my face in any movie with a plot more complex than Porky’s Revenge, they’d probably realise that their initial assessment was spot on. It’s fair to assume that I won’t be recruited by the FBI, NASA or MENSA any time soon. Sadly, I’m often confused and asking stupid questions before the opening scene has finished.
Yep, smart comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes you won’t realise how smart somebody is until you’re stuck on an island with them and they build you a house, catch you some fish and save your life all before sunset. This might also be the same person who struggles to spell or calculate simple equations.

IQ Tests
When most of us talk about measured intelligence we are generally talking about a score someone has achieved completing, what we know as, an IQ test. While a score from an IQ test can tell us a little about a person, there’s far more that it doesn’t tell us. And quite often the information an IQ test doesn’t provide is exactly what will make the difference between success and failure (depending on the task, of course).
We all know at least one person who, if required, could write a quick overview of quantum physics in ten minutes (in three languages) yet would struggle to walk into a social setting and engage a stranger in casual conversation. Neither would they get your joke or know when they’re pissing someone off. And if they had to do something complex like change a baby’s nappy(diaper) (1) they’d panic and (2) they’d have to Google it.
While there are several definitions for Social Intelligence, what I’m talking about today is our ability to interact effectively with other people in a range of settings, situations and circumstances. Following are some indicators of a person’s level of social intelligence.

How do you rate yourself on the following?
  • Being an active listener.
  • Reading and responding to non-verbal cues – keeping in mind that the majority of our communication is non-verbal.
  • Being able to create connection and build rapport.
  • Reading situations and people in those situations.
  • Knowing what is and what isn’t appropriate for that conversation and that moment.
  • Being able to avoid and, when necessary, resolve conflict.
  • Making others feel valued, respected and appreciated.
  • Knowing when to say nothing.
  • Knowing how to start a conversation.
  • Assessing the feelings of others and understanding a perspective other than your own.
  • Demonstrating humility.
  • Being able to hold a conversation with someone with whom you have nothing in common.
  • Being able to adapt your communication style for your audience (individual or group) in terms of language, vocabulary, volume, speed and content.
  • Being able to motivate, inspire and empower others.

The Right Person for the Right Job
Since I started my business (just after the last ice-age), I’ve employed somewhere in the vicinity of four hundred people. When I’m interviewing prospective staff I always rate people skills, communication and social intelligence above academic intelligence on the employability scale. Of course I want knowledgeable, qualified and technically competent staff but I’m acutely aware that those three ingredients don’t automatically equal a great trainer, teacher, coach, motivator or employee. It’s my experience that people with a high level of social intelligence are well suited to (the numerous) careers which involve significant face-to-face contact and social interaction.
Over the years, I’ve met, worked with and employed many people who have had limited technical knowledge (to begin with) and basic qualifications yet they constantly produced great results, built fantastic relationships and were always in demand because they simply had a high level of social intelligence. They were smart where and when it counted. They had excellent awareness, empathy, insight, understanding and overall people skills.

A Different Education
How great would it be if our school kids were part of an educational system which not only valued and taught the academic basics (mathematics, sciences, humanities), but also one that held the development of their social and interpersonal skills in the same esteem? If this were to happen, I believe our kids would come out of school much better prepared for the practical realities and challenges of life beyond the classroom. Imagine if they had the choice of elective subjects such as communication, conflict resolution, leadership, emotional intelligence and relationship building 101… just to name a few.

Relationship x Friendship

One of the best things about college is the opportunity to meet new people, and you will have tons of chances to make new friends and date types of people you’ve never been with before. One thing that takes some effort, though, is making sure you are treating your best friend since freshman year just as well as your current flame. Remember, relationships can fade, but good friends never have to. So, here are a few ways to keep you from neglecting those all-important friendships.
Check In with Friends
The best way to make sure your bond is still strong is to actually communicate. Bring up the fact that you’ve been spending a lot of time with your current boyfriend or girlfriend, and see what your friend says. There is no harm in asking them if they miss hanging out. If the answer is yes, then take some extra time for them.
Watch for Warning Signs
Even if your friends don’t outright say that you’ve turned into a total hermit, leave yourself open to taking the hint. If they’re constantly ribbing you for bumming out of poker night or skipping the movies with them, or if they seem a little short or put off when you talk, change your new routine one night and give those friends a much-needed visit.
Hang with Friends for a Relationship Break
Use time with your friends as a breather from your relationships. While you definitely need to spend the appropriate amount of time dishing on how things are going, remember to talk to your friends about things other than your relationship. This will help you stay a little more in touch with reality and be a better friend and boyfriend.
Keep Your Routines
If you had a routine in place before you got together with your girlfriend, don’t break it now. It’s important to keep doing the things you liked to do when you were single, or you could start to loose important parts of what made you special to your significant other in the first place. You also shouldn’t let your friends down just because you’re attached at the hip. If Friday is always girls’ night, don’t change it. Or if you always watch the playoffs with the boys, why stop now?
Mix and Match
You know, you can hang out with both your significant other and your friends at the same time, too. Don’t, of course, drag your girlfriend to watch a game of touch football that she has no interest in or make your boyfriend come shopping with you and your friends if he hates the mall, but you can all go out to restaurants, movies, or bars together and fit in some quality time for everyone.

On this bewitching voyage that will test their hearts and spirits, the trio will face magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, roaring dragons and enchanted merfolk. Only an entirely uncharted journey to Aslan's Country – a voyage of destiny and transformation for each of those aboard the Dawn Treader

Relax

What does it mean to relax? Despite hearing this term thousands of times during the course of our lives, very few people have deeply considered what it's really about.

When you ask people (which I have done many times) what it means to relax, most people will answer in a way that suggests that relaxing is something you plan to do later - you do it on vacation, in a hammock, when you retire, or when you get everything done. This implies, of course, that most other times (the other 95 percent of your life) should be spent nervous, agitated, rushed, and frenzied. Very few actually come out and say so, but this is the obvious implication. Could this explain why so many of us operate as if life is one great big emergency? Most of us postpone relaxation until our "in basket" is empty. Of course it never is.

It's useful to think of relaxation as a quality of heart that you can access on a regular basis rather than something reserved for some other time. You can relax now. It's helpful to remember that relaxed people can still be superachievers and, in fact, that relaxation and creativity go hand in hand. When I'm feeling uptight, for example, I don't even try to write. But when I feel relaxed, my writing flows quickly and easily.

Being more relaxed involves training yourself to respond differently to the dramas of life - turning your melodrama into a mellow-drama. It comes, in part, from reminding yourself over and over again (with loving-kindness and patience) that you have a choice in how you respond to life. You can learn to relate to your thinking as well as your circumstances in new ways. With practice, making these choices will translate into a more relaxed self.

Next Stop-Happiness

I havent go back by bus for ages. Waiting at the station for nearly two hours.  People walking in and out, going up and down from bus. Life is like a passenger in bus. Meeting different people in different station. Primary school, secondary school, high school, university.

Please, please try your best to do everything in your life. Don't take a "cincai" manner in your smallest unimportant projects. Please walk the talk. Don't simply make a promise breach it. Please be punctual, don't delay and delay.

Kick away my emo feeling. Try to stop speaking "wo yao beng kui" Emo die

Tomorrow will be a better day
